Other Backwardness
It
is well know that the areas where Muslims live
in majority lack access to basic amenities and
infrastructure which are otherwise available
to the areas of other socio-religious communities.
It has been noted earlier that how their areas
are deprived of educational institutions almost
mandatory for rural and urban based proportion
of population. The situation is poor with respect
to medical facilities. More than 16% of the
villages without medical facilities are located
in Muslim concentration areas. Almost 2000 Muslim
concentration villages in Assam and Jammu and
Kashmir, more than 3000 villages in West Bengal
and Bihar, and above 5000 villages in Uttar
Pradesh are without any medical facilities.
In most of the states, the proportion of Muslim
concentration villages with such facilities,
indicating a bias in public services provisioning
in Muslim concentration areas. A large number
of Muslim concentration villages in states like
West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Jammu
and Kashmir and Jharkhand lack post and telegraph
facilities. Pucca approach road is again lower
in these villages than the corresponding estimate
for all villages.
